22 Jun We love a visitor!
June 9 – 14
My mom visited us last weekend for a whirlwind 5 days! On Thursday we showed off the flourishing farm property and the local haunts, all within walking distance around Arroyo Seco, our one-road town. We got cocktails and apps at ACEQ, followed by live music and a bbq platter at Sabroso’s!
On Friday we drove up to Taos Ski Valley to see what areas might still be open for hiking, despite the state-wide national forest closure. We were able to hike around the back base of the ski hill along the Hondo River.
- Hiking around the Hondo river under a back chair lift.
- Hondo River though the main base of Taos Ski Valley
On Saturday we hit the bustling downtown of Taos for the farmer’s market with pickup instructions from Muna, breakfast tamales, and coffee. We spent the rest of the afternoon visiting several resale stores, and grabbing a quick bite at the Manzanita Market before returning to Arroyo Seco for a couple bands playing at our town’s pavilion. Full day exploring a lot of Taos’ offerings!
Sunday we loaded up the van with Mom’s camping supplies and headed back to Wild Rivers Recreation Area in the Rio Grande del Norte National Monument outside Questa. We grabbed a campsite overlooking the Red River Canyon, and enjoyed a perfect night camping under the almost-full moon.
- Great campsite with hammock spots & awesome views!
- Hiking trail leading out of our campsite into the Red River canyon
- Quick 40 min drive away!
The following day we hiked down to the Rio Grande and took a long long break at the river’s edge with snacks and cold-water dips! We ended the day with a fantastic chicken alfredo green chile pizza back at our work-trade property!
- Hiking down to the Rio Grande with Sarah’s Mom
- Long leisurely afternoon at the river!
With mom leaving the next day, we hung out in the gardens and had a great breakfast at Sol Cafe across the street. It was a fantastic visit!
