We spent the latter half of the summer living and working with our two initial Food Church properties in New Mexico. Both locations will eventually be able to support full-time or 3-season residency for the owners and additional workers, but for now Aaron and I make the perfect first stewards as we have our own lodging with the built-out van and plenty of backcountry-living experience.

We spent 4 exceedingly lovely weeks in Southern New Mexico at the Selah property, getting to know the land, building swales, rainwater catchments, harvesting, planting, cooking and of course enjoying immensely being in our natural element.

Throughout the summer we also periodically stayed at the other Food Church property, located 40 minutes south of Taos near Peñasco NM. This 11-acre parcel, temporarily named Llano, was once ranch land, and has a beautiful full-time creek running through it in addition to 2 irrigation ditches. We monitored and added to several test planting beds that are passively watered by the irrigation ditches and could not get over the 360º views of this property! We love staying here and can’t wait for more dedicated, longer stints next summer. Read more about the Llano property here.
