29 Nov About the Farm: Sprout House
A big part of my farm tasks is overseeing the sprout house. It’s a small hoop shelter containing all planted seed trays until they are big enough to be transplanted to the ground. Jiva assigned this to me partially because I’m also the one planting all seed trays now, and partially because it’s very close to our Coco Cabin lodgings – so 2x daily (sometimes 3 if it’s very hot & sunny) watering is easy to do on the way to / from our room. In addition to watering, I thin the seed trays as they mature so we have only 1 plant to transplant per cell.
It’s been really fun watching sprouts come up – from my plantings last Wednesday, the arugula, beets, turnips, lemon basil, two kinds of lettuce, and thyme have all sprouted already!
