23 Nov Day 6 – Sunday Funday to Hanalei

We had our first day off Sunday! Slept in a little, but still up to feed the chickens and water the sprout house at 7:30, but after that we were free to roam!

I wanted to trek up to a neighboring town, Hanalei, to find a sports bar for watching the Packers game. Since Hanalei has multiple stores, including a bike shop, Aaron busted out the farm bikes to check on their status and if we needed to pick up new tubes. Surprisingly, with some fresh air in the tires, lube on the rusty chains, and couple adjustments with an Allen wrench the bikes were ridable! I was on a single-speed cruiser with too-tall handlebars and Aaron rode a mountain bike with a busted derailer — but coasting down the Moloaa Valley hills was SO FUN! Busting our quads up hill on these non-shifting bikes — not so much. BUT it cut our commute time in half and we should be able to keep using the bikes easily to get around our neighborhood, and to the bus stop with relative ease.

Once the bus arrived, we hopped on to find nice cushy seats and full air conditioning (climate shock!). In a quick 25 minutes we were on the streets of Hanalei, less than a block from the sports bar I’d looked up on google. We got a table right by the TV showing the packer game, ordered $10 24oz beers and jumbo coconut shrimp and onion rings.

After the game we strolled up to the beach to take in the impressive views of Hanalei. What a gorgeous town! We’d definitely recommend visitors checking out staying here or near here, so far our favorite little town we’ve been to on Kauai.
