15 Oct Hiking Fall Colors in Taos!

We’re full swing in our 4th and final new season in Taos and watching the autumn leaves change from our windows! We saw the yellows starting to pop from our views in Arroyo Seco and headed up the ski valley canyon for a quick hike!

The aspens were taking their sweet time, slowly creeping yellow into new groves, with orange replacing the earliest changers. We headed up Ski Valley again the next week for another workout among the changing season. We arrived at the trailhead for Italians, a hike we hadn’t been on since mid May, when there was still too much snow to make it more than 2 miles up.
We enjoyed the frequent river crossings (11 within the first 2 miles) and awed over the colorful views all around.

For seven years of living in Denver, we tracked and guessed when the alpine aspens would be changing, always trying to plan a road trip to see them during peak color. How fulfilling it was this year to watch them change from our own backyard!
