26 Aug Taos Summer Fun: lots of live music and river time

In between harvests, gardening, cooking, and our regular freelance jobs, we’ve still found time each week to get out and explore more Taos entertainment. We’ve found free music often, sometimes right across the street from our property in the form of Seco Live, but most often downtown Taos.

We’re finding multiple venues that host free music weekly or monthly! The Revolt Gallery has a really great outdoor courtyard and indoor gallery – and we saw two bands there on a Sunday night.

We also checked out another music venue that same night called the Old Montgomery. The space used to be a woodworking shop and has the most beautiful stage! The room is filled with stumps and blankets to sit on, and hosts free acoustic shows weekly. We went to this venue two weeks in a row we liked it so much!

Last week, we had the amazing fortune of being gifted two free tickets to a concert in downtown Taos at Kit Carson Park to see My Morning Jacket. We were delighted to be able to join some friends at the show and get to see our first big Taos show.

We are feeling more and more at home here in northern New Mexico, so happy to be in a small mountain town with all these amazing opportunities for live music! On days without a concert draw, we’ve been finding ourselves hopping up ski valley canyon for icy cold dips in the Hondo river. The clear mountain water has us hooked on cold plunges, dunking ourselves as deep as we can handle and then lounging in the sun, powerful heat at 8,000ft elevation, even when the air is only 75ºF.

There are so many different places to take a dip along the road up to ski valley, it’s never hard to find a great picnic retreat!
