10 Jul Vacation on Kaua’i Day 14 – Our last full day on magic island

Waking up in a king size bed and getting to walk 10 glorious indoor carpeted steps to the bathroom was a perfect way to start our last day on Kaua’i. We slept in till after 9:00a and I began prepping breakfast. When we’d stopped at the farm the day before, I took the liberty of grabbing a couple eggs and some greens from the kitchen garden – our final farm fresh breakfast was just as satisfying, and we gushed at how lucky we’d been to have the easiest of access to such amazing food for five months.

Aside from a few hours of packing, we had the whole day to spend as we wished. Believe it or not, there was still a north shore beach we hadn’t seen yet! Hideaway Beach is a very popular spot in Princeville, accessed by a super steep trail that was NOT advisable with recent rain. We thought it was the perfect nearby spot to check out on our last day!

We parked a few blocks away from the trailhead and walked along the edge of the bluff. The views of the north shore are incredible as always, and we had perfect weather for our last beach trip.

We found the trail and excitedly began down the narrow path that lead strait to the ocean. The vegetation quickly grew thick as a jungle as we approached the edge of the bluff. Down we go!

We finally reached the beach and found a spot to drop our shoes. It was fairly crowded (by our no-tourists standards) but not terrible for such a small beach. The waves on sure were nice and low since the beach was well protected by off-shore reefs. We quickly headed for the ocean waves, floating and swimming in the perfectly warm clear blue water of the South Pacific. It was so lovely I didn’t ever want to get out!

Eventually some thicker, darker clouds started rolling in, and we conceded we should probably head back to our condo to finish packing and a final load of laundry. We were meeting our other hiking buddy, Jenny, that evening at Tiki Iniki and wanted to be mostly packed for our 11a flight the next morning.

We spent the evening chatting with Jenny about the Kalalau Trail and lamenting how much we’d miss her. We had a couple rounds of tiki drinks before calling it a night. Believe it or not, Aaron and I were exhausted, and ready to crash pretty early! 14 days of island vacation sure takes it out of you!
