18 Dec Week 5: Chicken Mischief & Export, Surprise from Jiva, and a trip to Urgent Care
We had a busy busy week! We did a lot of new planting on freshly cleared & shaped beds: beets, pak qing, and lettuce.

Jiva caught a pic of us for the Olana instagram!
Our downside of the week was that Helen + the Jets broke the Farm Trust Agreement and went for the Pak beds… I was so disappointed to see our PERFECT and AMAZING 4 week old Pak bed taking some heavy beak hits. Ours is surviving but there are 3 other pak beds also affected. With that the plan to domesticate the hens, and export the roosters has been set in motion. Jiva caught one of the young roosters and already brought it out to one of the nearby beach areas for relocation.
- Chicken Destruction
- One of our few untouched paks remaining…
Another thing that happened was Aaron developed a rash on the backs of his legs – shortly after the bee stings but possibly from other insect bites. The rash was persistent, if not spreading, so finally after almost a whole week we figured it was time for some real treatment. The local clinic was only a few minutes away, and we were able to borrow the farm car to get there, and also grab some local lunch while waiting for the prescriptions!
After picking up everything we needed, we took a short detour out towards the lighthouse. Gorgeous view as always!
Last night Jiva surprised us with a Costco purchase: an Air Fryer Pro Oven! We can now dehydrate, bake, air-fry and rotisserie! Last night we made Ulu fries in about 20 minutes! Aaron’s already dehydrated a bunch of basil and our fellow volunteer- Texas Tim is currently dehydrating some bananas! Can’t wait to bake a full size loaf in this baby!
