04 Jan Week 7: Sunday Beach Trip to Wyllie’s & Hanalei
As is our new tradition we headed for the beach today (Sunday). Keeping with the goal of trying out new ones, we headed for the beach on the other side of the river at Anini – so while the same bay, same great swimming, the entrance was completely different. Instead of driving along the ocean from the east, we parked at the Westin in Princeville and hiked down from the south. The short but very steep hike was lovely with towering trees, a waterfall, and tons of cool vegetation along the way.
- Start of the Wyllie beach trail
- Great overlook of the bay
The beach was basically the same as Anini – but that didn’t stop us from awing over the trees once again as well as a giant driftwood split tree trunk. The water was much clearer than the previous trip here, and it was also low tide, so I took the opportunity to don my goggles for a quick 15 distance swim looking at the crystal clear sandy bottom. Aaron found some beach treasures in the mean time!
- Wyllie Beach
After our beloved beach time we headed into Hanalei to watch the 2nd half of the Packer game with $2 bud lights. Since the game ended victoriously at 2:30, we grabbed a snack and got to our second beach of the day – a return to Hanalei beach. Finally we hit the grocery store for a couple weeks’ worth of supplies, then back to the farm! We had set the crock pot up before we left and invited our new part time volunteers and residents Sammy Joe & Marco (a couple) to dinner! The four of us plus Orion enjoyed a nice hot bowl of rice, beans, pak choy, peppers made in our first farm-batch of veggie broth!
Now to bed for that early 7:30a Monday meeting with the FULL farm team: Texas Tim, Luna (newly returned from seeing her family in Kansas), Sammy Joe & Marco, Jiva, Myrica and us.
